2016 GENERAL MEETING
Minutes from the SMIC Council conference call, Monday, June 20, 2016

David called the meeting to order at 10:10 AM.

Present were:
Akbar Kieken (AK), Kuan Yin Cindy Pujos-Michel (KY), Fazalunissa Carole Harmon (FZ), Jelaluddin Gary Sill (JL) and David Murray (DM)

KY gave her report on the ghost River retreat centre:
Sitara and KY investigated it.
July, August months are the slow season. A reasonable quote was provided. [See attachment]
Sufi Movement in Canada will pay some of the expenses
KY: national retreat would be beneficial for Canadian Sufis.
KY: it could be in 2017. Staying at Pine Lodge, a maximum of 30 and a minimum of 10 could be accommodated.
FZ, how many could come, would come? it would be a Sufi movement in Canada retreat.
KY: international invitations would be possible.
KY: the retreat could be a three night four day retreat running from Tuesday to Friday.
KY: why not large enough for a federation retreat.
AK: a national event could alternate between the West Coast and Alberta. KY week of August 21 could be booked. KY offers to check availability.
Discussion as to who might be director. DM volunteers.
DM ideas for the program should be sent sooner rather than later.

Discussion re possible West Coast Federation Retreat:

DM: we should keep the idea of a Federation Retreat in Canada at the top of our list to do. 2019 could be possible.

International Council items: Discussion about financial accounting for international events. Federation retreat and summer school were discussed.

Discussion about the international Council. Presented by DM. DM suggested another conference call fairly soon.

DM suggested that the loon Lake retreat centre might be a venue for a future Federation retreat.
