Ora Ray Baker-Bernard, later called Amina Begum, was born on 8th May 1892. As a young girl she fled from home and went overseas to meet her beloved. But the girl was American and the beloved, Indian and a marriage between these two was most unusual for those times.

It is intriguing. When hearing about or reading the remembrances of mureeds to "their" Murshid one notices that Amina Begum, Inayat Khan's life partner, is hardly mentioned at all. "Murshid" was their point of focus and little else existed.
